Existing Apple Watch bands may be incompatible with Apple’s 2024 smartwatch – HardwareZone

Apple might introduce a redesigned band connector for the 2024 Apple Watch.

Tipster @KosutamiSan shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) that the band connector of the 2024 Apple Watch is “completely redesigned” and current watch bands will not be compatible.

While the tipster did not provide further information on the redesigned band connector, a previous Bloomberg report in August said that Apple is exploring a magnetic band attachment system as part of a major revamp for the device to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its launch.

Since the introduction of the Apple Watch in 2014, Apple has ensure backward compatibility of the watch bands with every generation of the Apple Watch, except for some selected bands which only work with 38mm and 40nmm cases.

The current band system is said to occupy “a considerable amount of space” which could be better used for fitting a bigger battery or other components.

The redesigned band connector will possibly free up space for Apple to debut the two rumoured health features of blood pressure monitoring and sleep apnea detection on the 2024 Apple Watch.
